My name is Cynthia White. I was born in 1962 in Shreveport, Louisiana. And since this is not a travel blog, I'll condense the next 47 years into this: I've also lived in NJ, FL, TN, NYC, France for 6 years, and Canada since 1991. I currently live in Langley, British Columbia, a suburb of Vancouver. I have a BA in English (minor in Physics) and a working woman's Ph.D. in Quilting. Over the years I've worked as a Secretary, Stockbroker, French/English translator, English Teacher, Technical Writer, Bookkeeper, French Teacher, a Process Server and 15 years in Calgary as an oil and gas Marketer. I just moved to British Columbia and just got remarried.
For several years now, my son has been suggesting regularly that I start a blog. Of course, years ago I didn't even know what a "blog" was. Now that I do know what it is, I'm not sure whether he thinks I actually have something interesting to say or he just thinks blogging is a more useful activity for me than watching crime shows on TV. I finally decided to take the plunge when a couple of other people said the same thing recently. Kind of like "when ten people tell you that you're drunk, maybe you should sit down".
Kind-hearted and gentle although I give off an aura of "tough". "Debrouillarde" as they say in French, or good at "managing" or "getting things done one way or another". I'm tolerant and easy-going but opinionated. Some people say I'm very stubborn. I like things to be clean, but I'm missing the "tidy" gene. I'm the person people call in the middle of the night when they don't know what to do. I smoke cigarettes, get migraine headaches, have lots of allergies, let my dogs eat off my fork, and broke my back in 2003. My hair became prematurely gray at the age of 21. I'm a good cook, a voracious reader, and very poor at those psychological tests where you have to identify "what's missing?" from the picture.
I have two children who I cherish. A son born in 1987 and a daughter born in 1989. You'll hear more about them. I also have 2 French Bulldogs that I love. An older male that has had every disease known to veterinary science and some issues veterinary science can't explain, and a younger female who acts like a Mexican Jumping Bean.
I'm recently married for the third--yes third--time to someone wonderful. I've instructed him that if he decides for any reason at any time he doesn't want to be married anymore, I'd like him to just run me over with our motorhome. The reason I mention my married history is because you will hear stories about my past as time goes by, so might as well get the husbands straight. I'll refer to my husband as Banjo. Guess why?
Sarah Palin (are you kidding?), Tiger Woods (never liked him), anything that tastes like black licorice, smoked oysters, chicken salad with gristle in it, people who are full of themselves, books written in the present tense, and blogs that don't include anything about the writer.
Coffee, chocolate, watermelon, fresh figs, piano, guitar, TV documentaries (I can rarely stay awake for a full-length movie), Scrabble, NYT crosswords, Sudoku, Kakuro, fabric stores, cotton candy, swimming, and napping.
Quilting, Books, Plants, Food, Aquariums, Photography, and Craig Ferguson and in that order.
I'm going to really really really try to observe some boundaries, and not talk about certain people. There are some in my family who are VERY IMPORTANT PEOPLE. I used to work for them. "Used to" is the operative term....... Unfortunately, by not telling any of THOSE Stories, I am forsaking the viral trajectory this blog would take if I did. In case you didn't know it, I come from an illustrious family. Remember that guy a few years back who was arrested in Germany and went to prison for a billion dollar insurance fraud? He's my cousin.
So I hope you will help me to stay within my boundaries. Set back, stay a while, and you'all come back and see me some time. I'm going to have a lot of fun with this blog; I hope you will too.
